SUSTAINABILITY

The end goal of Mentor Leaders is to move each community in which we work to full spiritual and economic stability and sustainability. Together, we provide partnership and friendship to these communities encouraging them to build a more sustainable life for themselves! You are our partners in this most important work!

Spiritual Leadership

Spiritual sustainability is one of the more difficult elements to define in terms of specific activity as it is more a mind-set than a list of “to do’s”. However, much of what we see happening in Togo is helping us develop a more concise definition of what it means to lead a community toward spiritual sustainability.

Specifically, we see the church thriving in the power of the Holy Spirit under the Lordship of Jesus, and the local direction of Pastor William Koatidja. While the church began in Gbentchal just over a decade ago with just tens of believers meeting in a small church that would house maybe 50 to 60 people, they are now meeting in a new worship center that seats 500 people and is filled regularly! In addition, Pastor William is training and mentoring several young men who he pours into weekly and who travel each Sunday to other churches in the region to share the gospel of Jesus. This is sustainability.

Our Christian School in Togo, the Will Smith Mentor Leaders Academy is also now gaining more and more tuition paying students who recognize the value of the excellent education and environment being offered on our campus. When asked what they want to do or be when they “grow up.” Many of the young people respond that they would like to serve in God’s kingdom as a pastor. The opportunities for this are growing each day.

Economic, Agricultural, and
Civil Development

In a recent youth camp, the students were challenged to think outside the box of the usual options (farmer, brick layer, etc.). While these are certainly necessary and noble pursuits, we are challenging young people to consider careers in medicine, politics, law enforcement, mechanical and civil engineering. We believe God is going to transform the village of Gbentchal into a city of refuge! To do that, God is going to call some of the locals to serve in ways they haven’t even begun to imagine!

Many of them who had no opportunity to work in their native village, will be challenged to become entrepreneurs. Learning, then, to work for themselves, as well as providing jobs for other villagers who want to see their community grow and thrive.

Mentor Leaders isn’t simply encouraging sustainability; we are actively working to provide opportunities that are beyond what they’ve ever known. A new clinic, a gas station, a university. These and other projects like these will continue to provide an outlet for those who have a strong sense of community and a desire to be all that God has called them to be. In 2018, construction on the Alidou Clinic was completed. So named because a young man named Alidou died of malaria because there were no nearby medical facilities where he could get the treatment he needed. The clinic was built in his honor, and in honor of all those whose lives would be different today if basic healthcare had been provided on a local level.

This is sustainability. This is our goal.

Together let’s change the life of someone across the globe. 100% of public donations go directly to Mentor Leaders’ projects. All donations are tax deductible.
