Every 15 seconds a child dies....you can help. More than a billion people do not have access to safe water. Contaminated water accounts for of all diseases and claims the lives of 5 million children a year. According to USA Today “More people die each year from unsafe water than from all forms of violence, including war.” On average every 15 seconds a child dies from a waterborne disease. Through trips and research Mentor Leaders has developed a strategy which we call Mission 29. Mission 29’s goal is to reach 29 of the most impoverished villages in Togo, West Africa by providing them with clean water through drilling wells and building eternal relationships. Join with your church, family, team or maybe you personally feel led to make a donation. You can be a part in saving the lives and health of Togolese families. To learn more please click here!

TOGO:

The 2010 Mission 29 team safely arrived in Togo last week to begin the 4 months of work here in Africa. First on the schedule was the 1st annual Togo West Africa Pastors Conference. This conference was held in Lome, Togo at a local church. The original schedule was to have 50 pastors from villages and towns spreading from the south to the far north. By the end of the week we had about 100 pastors from 4 different countries in attendance. The conference was a huge success and preparations for the 2011 conference have begun already.

Next week the Mentor Leaders team will begin heading into the 29 villages for the first stage of Mission 29. Please remember the team in your prayers, that we will have safety to and from the villages and also safety as we spend time in these villages; some where no "white man" have ever been.

Very Productive time in haiti

The sun has set and the sounds of cars, motorcycles, and people have begun to die down. Another night is beginning here in beautiful Jacmel, Haiti. It feels like my first week has come and gone in the time it took me to blink my eyes. And it doesn't seem as if things are not going to be slowing down anytime soon. After spending a few days in Port Au Prince and visiting the area, we arrived in Jacmel on last Friday. Once we were in Jacmel we hit the ground running. We have been tearing down unsafe houses, cleaning streets, and, when time permits, planning future meetings. It has been a very productive time in Haiti.

On Sunday we attended Restoration Ministry's service and returned Monday and Thursday to spend time with the children and assist with serving the meals that have been prepared for the children. It is so exciting to see how God is moving in such mighty ways here!

Please keep us in your prayers as we continue the work here in Haiti.

I am blessed!

As I sit in the airport awaiting my departure to Haiti, I am blessed to think about all the Lord has accomplished already this year through Mentor Leaders. It has been my pleasure to play a small part as I serve along side those that God has sent to Mentor Leaders.

I am looking forward to arriving in Haiti to see all the wonderful Haitian friends that I have made. It is my prayer that we see many accept the Lord this trip as well as be encouraged in their faith.

We have the wonderful privilege of rebuilding, back to safe standards, a home for a Haitian family. I’m super excited about that!

Thank each of you for praying and faithfully supporting me and the ministry. It is growing with a strong solid foundation, which I praise the Lord for.

Praise the LORD!

As many of you know, Mentor Leaders has been partnered with The Conduit mission and is now working in Jacmel Haiti. Although this partnership came to be long before the earthquake, Mentor Leaders has been glad for the opportunity to serve alongside The Conduit at their feeding center that provides meals for several hundred Hatians every day!

One specific thing that we can pray for, and possibly learn something from, is that many of the church families are now homeless due to this tragedy, and have developed a small community at the church! Every night, under a large tent a few hundred fellow believers gather together for worship, to eat as a family, and, eventually, sleep.

My mission, as soon as I landed, was to find this church body that the Conduit has been working with for Years. I had no idea where I was going or even which direction to head. All I had was an address and a man’s name, Fedony. If you know me, you know that I love a challenge so I was off the plane and ready to go! The first Haitian that I met was Caleb (His english name) and Ceasar. I showed Caleb the address and asked him if he knew where this church was. He said, “Yes, I am the english teacher for the pastor. I have interpreted there many times for pastors, come I will show you." He quickly found us a vehicle to use for the next two days (huge answered prayer) and within 30 minutes of landing we were 20 minutes away from the airport standing in the front yard of the
church. Gods timing is perfect!

I have listed the supplies that we were able to deliver below so that you can see the blessing that you have been through your prayers and financial support!

We delivered enough food for 250 people plus:

500 lbs of Rice
125 lbs of Beans
2 large cans of oil
3 large bags of pasta
1 case of tomato paste
5 sacks of spaghetti
20 gallons of water

To see these people weep and praise the Lord was incredible. PRAISE THE LORD for all he has done and will continue to do!

Love is on the move,

The Latest from Haiti

Hello friends! I am FINALLY leaving on the 9 a.m. flight chartered for Jacmel! I will be working for the next several days with Darren Tyler and The Conduit Mission, who Mentor Leaders is now partnered with. We will be based out of the feeding center that I have mentioned in my previous updates.

Please be praying specifically for the church here as there are roughly 300 people in this church body alone that have been without food, water, or medical supplies since last Tuesday. I am not going to be able to make contact for the next few days, but I am looking forward to giving you a full report of how God will work!

Please be praying

David

Motives

I have had plenty of time to think. I am still in The Dominican Republic and have been frustrated by the fact that I do not seem to be getting any closer to my goal of reaching Haiti. Today, as I sat waiting for answers that didn’t seem to be coming, I began to ask myself, “Why I am here?” To be honest I just wanted to pack it up and fly home, but then I began to evaluate my reasons for wanting to be here among this chaos and confusion in the first place. Was I here to fill some sort of personal, spiritual void, or in some way make a name for myself, or was I here because I wanted to make Jesus known to the lost and hurting people of Haiti? Sitting here in the Dominican, finding that my original goals didn’t seem any closer to being accomplished, I wondered, “ Why doesn’t God allow me to get into Haiti so I can do His Work?” It was then I realized that God’s work IS getting accomplished. God’s work ALWAYS gets accomplished, whether I am directly involved or not. I think that sometimes we need to step back and realize that God just might not need us on this one, and that maybe, just maybe, he might be sending away some soldiers so that His name, not ours will be on the world’s lips. In some small way I understand how Gideon’s men may have felt as they watched their comrades marching home, and then looked around at a fighting force that looked more like a group of farmers than an army. God sent away all those men, most of whom WANTED to be there, so that HE would get the glory. I am both ready and willing to do His work, but if I have to sit this one out, along with the hundreds of others in the same situation as mine, so that God can be made famous, then who am I to question HIM?

By the way, right about the time I finished this update I was given the great news that I would be leaving tomorrow on a 9 a.m. flight into Haiti!

Thank you for your prayers.

David

Update from the Dominican

Hello brothers and sisters, today I send my greetings from the Dominican Republic . . . AGAIN! Yes, I am still in the D.R. and have been trying desperately to connect with our people in Jacmel for two days. The waiting is intolerable, and my eagerness to deliver the message of Jesus Christ, and not being able to, is almost unbearable! For two days now I have been sitting here with the hope that the people need, but have been unable to get it to them. It is extremely frustrating, but it reminds me of how we, as believers, have the message of hope but are failing to be the conduit that plumbs it to and around the world.

It is possible that we could have two airplanes coming from the Bahamas. One will carry our doctors and other personnel, and the other will carry nothing but supplies. The clinic is averaging 30 amputations a day with little to no medical supplies. Our people in Jacmel also have a great need for food and water.

I believe, strongly, that there is power in prayer. We have believers all over the globe praying for us and this, I trust, includes you. Please make these transportation issues a matter of specific prayer as we have the materials, but we just don’t have the means to deliver them. I encourage and challenge you to be the conduit God has created you to be.

For those of you who want to be a blessing financially, you can donate by clicking on the “donate now” link on our home page or mail a check, noted “Haiti”, to Mentor Leaders (you will find the address below). And once again, 100% of the funds that are donated will go toward the relief effort here in Jacmel and are tax deductible.

Your prayers are much needed and appreciated,

Love is on the Move,

David A. Whetstone

We thought you might enjoy an email that we received recently from a young man who was lead to Christ during the Togo 09 Expedition. It is for his story and hundreds others like it that we are doing what we do. We hope that you are touched by his testimony in his own words and that you will rejoice with us that he has become a brother and will spend eternity with the Lord! TOGO
UPDATE

Hello, All! The Mentor Leaders office has been a buzz of activity over the last couple of weeks and we just wanted to let you in on what God is doing. First, it is our joy to report that our Togo Mission team along with two other teams who partnered with JJ Alderman and Togo Palms this summer saw over one hundred Togolese give their hearts to the Lord and now have national pastors following up with them. (For more information on Togo Palms please visit www.togopalms.org). You will be hearing a lot more about Togo in the near future because the Lord has burdened us to spread the Gospel to the unreached in this country and we are placing it as our highest priority. We are excited about kicking off a campaign this October to raise funds, volunteers, shoes and clothing for the Togolese. Please stay tuned for how you can be involved. November will be our busiest month as we are also organizing and preparing for our annual Operation Christmas Child mission trip and youth conference in Live Oak, Florida. This year we expect to have over 250 young people working with us to get the Gospel to thousands of children all over the world and worshiping together during our evening sessions. That’s a snapshot of what we’ve got coming up soon. We would also like to hear about what God is doing in your life. Please feel free to call or email us to keep us updated on what’s going on or if you have any prayer requests that we can pray with you about.

TOGO,
AFRICA

This summer we are leading another expedition to Togo, West Africa and are in need of much prayer support. We will leave on June 24 and arrive home on July 7, except for David Whetstone, who will be staying until July 20. We are also in need of toys and practical things to bring to the Togolese children. Things like notepads, crayons, colorful stickers, pens and pencils, small toys, rags, soap, etc. are more than a treasure to them. If you would like to donate any of these items please contact our office. To read more about this go to the expedition page.
