village of Gbentchal

Located deep in the bush of Togo, West Africa, abandoned by their own government, lives the people of Gbentchal.

The people of Gbentchal have been left to survive harsh living conditions for many years. So far, there are 7,000 registered men accounted for, leaving women and children an unknown number at this time. With no source of clean water anywhere to be found, sickness and disease run rampant throughout this community. In fact, the average life expectancy is only thirty years of age.

This could be stabilized with clean water and basic medical assistance. Due to water related disease, many precious, innocent children are forced to grow up parent-less and with no hope for their future.

Things happening for the Village
of Gbentchal during 2011

We have 25 acres we are developing. This year we will have expedition teams coming throughout the entire summer to clear land, drill wells and build homes for the orphanage. This is going to be an exciting year for the people of Gbentchal and the team of Mentor Leaders. I encourage you to see how you can get involved in making a difference for our global brothers and sisters whether it is by giving or going.

taking action

The need to act promptly in these desolate communities is clear. There must be a plan; but a plan with no action is completely useless. Without action, people will die. Mentor Leaders has formed a plan of action consisting of five phases for transforming this world, one community at a time.

phase one:

form a team

Mentor Leaders, upon entering a community, will first establish trust and camaraderie with local leaders. Sharing the vision of what kind of additions would best ease the suffering of those struggling to survive. This offers a clear vision of what the community has the potential to become if we work together side by side.

phase two:

hope celebration

Next, a community celebration will be made by local leaders and Mentor Leaders. At this gathering the vision will be shared with everyone. Teamwork, responsibility and unity will be emphasized to those able to assist in the transformation that is about to transpire.

phase three:

assess and strategize

Examining the need and location for a fresh water source that will be most beneficial to the community, will be discussed and decided on amongst the recently united team.

phase four:

develop solutions

Formulating and creating the best possible remedy that will best fit the means necessary for distributing safe drinking water in the community. These options may consist of but are not limited to a fresh water well, water tower, or filtration system.

phase five:

empowerment begins

United, and determined, the focal point of this phase is to reach a self sustaining community. A community that is taught how to maintain the water source, understands the importance of sanitation to establish stability in the community.

None of this can be done without your help. Please check out our GET INVOLVED page for ways that you can help impact an entire community.
